ISW’s Role as Agents for Local Authorities

Collaborative Partnerships

At Advanced Child Care Assessments (ACCA), our Independent Social Workers (ISWs) play a crucial role as ‘agents’ for over 100 Local Authorities nationwide. Unlike traditional
agency or project-based social workers, our ISWs operate as self-employed practitioners,
fostering a unique relationship with ACCA as a third-party supplier.

Working Outside IR35

Operating outside IR35 tax rules, our ISWs maintain autonomy in their practice. While we have a dedicated Panel Manager providing support and guidance, our approach differs significantly from the managerial style employed by Local Authority Team Managers or Agency Social Workers.

Navigating the Agent Role

When instructed by a Local Authority to act as agents, our ISWs acknowledge the need for additional oversight. We recognise that certain restrictions are essential, particularly in cases where the Local Authority requires closer involvement in the ISW’s work. This collaboration extends to attending meetings as necessary, encouraging a closer liaison with allocated social workers.

Navigating Care Planning

It’s essential to note that the scope of an ISW assessment does not encompass care planning. Recognising this limitation, any recommended changes to reports, especially those related to care planning, are welcomed and met with enthusiasm to meet a mutually desired objective.

Open Communication and Conflict Resolution

Our commitment to working closely with Local Authorities promotes cohesion in recommendations. In instances of disagreement, we prioritise open communication and hold meetings to address concerns before concluding assessments. Preserving our relationship with Local Authorities is paramount, and we actively seek ways to strengthen this collaboration.

A Flourishing Partnership

As we navigate the role of agents for Local Authorities, our ISWs bring a unique perspective and commitment to effective collaboration. Through open communication, adherence to regulations, and a focus on maintaining solid relationships, we continue to deliver assessments that meet the needs of both our clients and the local communities we serve.
