Waking Nights / Residential Support

We can provide support and supervision to families through our ‘Waking Night’ provision. Offering welcome respite to families who are struggling with the care of their children.

Undertaken by our team of experienced Parenting Practitioners, our Waking Night service provides support to parents in a range of circumstances by offering necessary respite care for children within their own homes. Some typical examples would include:

  • A new/young and inexperienced parent
  • A parent with a level of learning difficulty
  • A parent with a child who has complex physical or mental health needs
  • A parent with physical difficulties
  • A situation of crisis

ACCA can provide support to parents overnight to assist with the care of children. These can follow recommendations from an Independent Social Work Assessment or directed by a Local Authority Social Worker who knows the family, their strengths and areas of difficulty.

Following a risk assessment, undertaken with the allocated Social Worker, we would identify the most experienced Parenting Practitioner/s, on the basis of the family’s needs and the circumstances of the case, to provide support with the care of a child to ensure the safety and security of the child at all times.

These are often circumstances where there are more than one child in the family however, the competing needs of the children mean that the parent/s are struggling and require some respite, to focus on the needs of other children or simply to get some much needed rest. Our service assists to keep families together and negates the need for respite care.

For new parents and for parents who have a learning need, this can offer the opportunity to develop their skills to meet the needs of their child independently or with reduced family and professional support.
